Over 90% of workers and producers in India are in the informal economy with no regular salaried employment, no protection from hazardous working conditions, no social security or social safety nets, and are particularly vulnerable to external fluctuations within the economy and the state.
Realizing this situation, ASWO conducted Free Tailoring Training to Women and Girls in the age group 18 to 35 to make them productive and empower. We selected around 100 beneficiaries with the help of NABARD Bank Manager and the Lead Bank Manager of the district. During this year we trained 100 poor women and girls drawn from various villages of the district. They were taught in sewing, cutting and maintenance of machines. NABARD sponsored this training. The valedictory programme was held and each beneficiary was given a Tailoring Kit. The Inspector of Police, Thudiyalur participated in the valedictory function. At the Valedictory programme a free Sewing Machine was provided to a trainee who lost her husband in an accident. The NABARD programme saw an expected 90% job placement.
